The house

The mansion built by Santiago Dimalow

In the 19th century, the English immigrant Santiago Dimalow arrived in Valparaíso and settled on Cerro Alegre. Together with his family he built the mansion that is now home to Casa Vander.

Dimalow pioneered the gas lamps in Valparaíso’s squares, which is why the promenade where we stand bears his name. We have kept the mansion’s original mouldings, its native-wood finishes and its windows and doors.

“A wonderful, architecturally striking setting: an old mansion with all the beauty of the past but modern services, and a small but really fun bar. It was a lovely surprise.”
Franco · Chile
“The location, the view, the cleanliness and the attentive staff. Sitting by the big window, watching the port and the rain falling, was lovely. I would come back here, and above all to Valparaíso.”
